Facebook Toaster

Facebook Toaster

Twitter/facebook/myspace/bebo (delete according to age, economic status and nationality) may seem all pervasive now, but if Samsung has its way, there truly will be no escape. The IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin saw the firm demonstrate its commitment to helping people chatter inanely and document aspects of their lives even mum doesn’t care about, by introducing social networking features to gadgets including cameras, TVs, digital photo frames, printers and mp3 players. Ok so I made the toaster up.

Not that facebook is all bad of course, after all, it can help Bollywood directors embarrass themselves with a spot of vaguely saucy chat, and allow girls trapped in storm drains to contact the emergency services when they’re too stupid to just dial the number (so much for it making you clever).

Spotify for iPhone released. Music industry breathes sigh of relief.

Monday, August 31st, 2009

According to the Spotify blog, it seems like Apple have finally de-clenched their assholes and allowed a competitor to have a good music app on the store. This is big news as it opens up what control the user has over their iPhone when it comes to music, due to the fact the Spotify app will allow subscribers (of it’s premium account) to download albums and store them on their phone.

All we need now is faith from the music industry in the service and a better share of profits for bands.

Choppy seas for Pirate Bay sale

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

The sale of file-sharing website The Pirate Bay is currently being investigated by the Swedish stock exchange BBC News is reporting. Earlier this year a deal for Global Games Factory to purchase The Pirate Bay was submitted for around 60m Kronor (£4.7m).

According to Global Games Factory owner, Hans Pandeya, there is confusion in the sale of an illegal site and it has rocked the boat among Swedish bankers. He said in an interview, “It’s quite unusual, buying an illegal site. Our system is legal, we just don’t want to tell anyone how this works [yet],”

The desire, once the sale is complete, is to take down the skull and crossbones and start distributing legal content, by paying the copyright owners and paying the file sharers, and also create some kind of massive supercomputing peer-to-peer grid.

This has caught attention of us here at The Processor as the number of users sharing files on the network must be massive and leveraging that kind of processing potential could in turn be sold on a pay for the content that was once being downloaded illegally. It really is clever uses of this technology that will get us a content download model that makes everyone happy.

Palmed off

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Sooooo, I’m in the market for a new phone, but it seems like every time I consider one I see a god awful advert which puts me off completely (Samsung Jet anyone). The Palm Pre is the latest offender, I’m pretty sure I don’t want to go with their flow if it involves speaking like a heavily medicated Californian yoga teacher and listening to Freur. Maybe I should just dig out a Nokia 5110.

The Jet set

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Any possible merit the launch had has now been comprehensively stomped by the rancid TV advert I had the misfortune of seeing yesterday. A Trainspotting style voice over tells us how rubbish waiting for things is, while a herd of obnoxious yahs run about/shag/smash stuff. It looks like a trailer for Skins recast with members of Oxford University’s indefensibly cuntish Bullingdon Club. The reason? Well, because as Samsung tells us, “impatience is a virtue”. Death would be too good for the ad agency responsible.
