Some more interesting news on everyone’s favourite Microsoft console (I promise we don’t have a fetish, in fact, I don’t even like them much). Some form of portable Xbox gaming now seems inevitable, at least according to Microsoft exec Shane Kim. In a recent (and slightly ass kissy) interview with Kikizo Kim was asked whether Xbox might branch out into the mobile space. His response:
“If we chased after a mobile or handheld opportunity, we would not have the resources and ability to do things like instant-on 1080p HD, Facebook, Twitter, Project Natal. And so we’ve chosen to focus on the living room experience from a hardware standpoint, if you will, but we’re building a service in Live that will… will extend to other platforms. No question about it.”
Hmmmm. In any case, it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll be seeing anything soon as Kim himself seemed unsure whether it would be best to enter the market with a proprietary device or a phone.
Meanwhile, the forthcoming update of Xbox Live is set to hit consoles on August 11 and will boost the platforms online services. Among other things, Microsoft will integrate its digital distribution platform, Games on Demand, which will allow console owners to purchase and download Xbox 360 games directly to their hard drive. They didn’t confirm whether you’d be able to keep them after the all but inevitable ring of death strikes though…
